A taste of ancient Nepal

MUSTANG

About This Place

Mustang is a high-altitude, semi-arid district in north-central Nepal, famously known as the "Last Forbidden Kingdom." Once an independent Tibetan kingdom, it remains one of the world’s most preserved pockets of Tibetan culture due to its long-term isolation—it was only opened to foreign tourists in 1992. The region is divided into Lower Mustang, which features the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath and lush apple orchards in Marpha, and Upper Mustang, a remote, desert-like landscape of red-fluted cliffs, ancient walled cities like Lo Manthang, and mysterious "sky caves" carved into vertical canyon walls.
